Considering a Job or Career Change?

Considering a job or career change? You are not alone. For example, "Around 91 percent of employees across the Middle East and North Africa region are considering changing jobs this year, according to a new survey by Bayt.com." I recently read this in an article in Arabian Business, and it's consistent with the conversations I'm having with people in various groups, including many of my clients.

The questions to be asked are,

  • Do you know what you really want?

  • By when you'd like to have it?

  • Do you know what job you'd rather be doing?

  • Will it be a random toss of the coin choice, or a well-thought out one that takes you in the direction you want to progress in?

  • Are you equipped for that new role?

  • If not, what are you doing about it?

If all you know is that you are unhappy where you are and will take anything that comes your way, simply because it's “new and different,'' chances are you'll still be unhappy. Change for the sake of change is a short-term fix.

Instead, stop and take stock of your situation, calmly and objectively. Identify what you are really unhappy with or lacking in your current situation. That will guide you in understanding what you really want. Form a clear well-thought out goal and action plan to get there. Assess your available resources and what you need to add on. A clear purpose and goal become a compass that enables you to make well-informed decisions that will, in turn, make you happier and content.
