Testimonials

  • Working with Global Impact Initiative has been one of the highlights of my professional growth. Anjum and the team were not only helpful, but genuinely thoughtful mentors who supported me every step of the way. I had the chance to develop opportunities for refugee communities, act as a bridge between organizations, and help create promotional content that showcased GII’s impact. As an intern coordinator, I gained confidence in leadership and delegation. Volunteering with the Refugee Sewing Collective was especially meaningful. I coordinated outreach and built community partnerships that helped boost the program’s visibility and support. I’m deeply grateful for everything I learned during my time with GII and would recommend the internship to anyone!

  • My experience with Gii has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey. Through my work with the Refugee Bazaars and other Gii initiatives, I’ve learned what it means to create true impact through helping my community, bringing empathy, and constant new ideas. Throughout my time at Gii, Mrs. Anjum Malik has been an incredible mentor. Her vision, warmth, and drive have become an example for me to follow and shown me how leadership can be both caring and effective. Gii has changed how I view global citizenship and the difference I want to make in the world.

  • It has been such a rewarding experience working with Gii and our passionate team during the last 4 years. After serving as an intern at Alhambra US Chamber (Gii's sister organization) in 2021 shortly after finishing graduate school, I was recruited to be a coordinator at Gii. Since then, I have collaborated with a variety of individuals and organizations at both the local and global level, gained insight into non-profit business and operations procedures, and contributed to broader efforts to help immigrant and refugee communities thrive in our country's educational and economic landscape. This experience has been invaluable, and I would encourage anyone interested in this work to get involved. It's extremely gratifying being able to drive change in this space alongside a group of talented and determined humanitarians.

  • My experience as an intern with the Global Impact Initiative has been incredible. I learned so much by creating social media posts and updating slideshows to make curriculum clearer and more engaging. Some key projects I worked on included Instagram posts promoting donated baby items and highlighting refugee artwork. This internship helped me grow in a professional environment and strengthened my communication and creative skills. Everyone at GII was so kind, and my supervisor, Mrs. Sofia, was especially supportive. The environment is positive, generous, and guided by amazing leadership from Ms. Anjum. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity.

  • My internship with Global Impact Initiative (GII) gave me the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that support refugee, immigrant, and underserved communities. Even while working remotely, I have been part of a supportive, collaborative team and gained experience in curriculum development, strategy, and project proposal writing for grant applications. This experience strengthened my skills and my commitment to a mission driven, community centered work.

  • I want to thank Isabel Wang and Margot Bellon of Bridging Tech, and Anjum Malik of the Global Impact Initiative for bridging the digital divide and empowering our at-risk high school students. Your mission to give our students laptops for learning during these times of crisis is so welcome. Your help changes the narrative for these students and helps them rise out of poverty through skill-building and job placement. Let’s continue to work together. I have taught in this at-risk environment for 15 years and have worked with the homeless and poverty-stricken youth. Thankfully this program from Stanford allows my students to surround themselves with Changemakers as they continue on their academic journey.

  • Over the past semester working with Global Impact Initiative, I learned a lot about the work that goes into supporting underserved communities in a meaningful way. As part of the grant research team, I discovered the time and effort that goes into finding opportunities that align with our mission and writing thoughtful grant applications that reflect our goals. This experience has shown me that nonprofit work is about turning ideas for helping communities in need into real support. My time with Gii has helped me to understand the importance of advocacy, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to Gii’s mission this semester.

  • Working with GII has been truly rewarding since I get to expand my knowledge of empowering refugees and conducting grant and research tasks. Beyond that, Ellie and Anjum have been quite the pleasure to work with. In spite of knowing them for a short time and only working with them virtually, it is very clear that they care about me as an intern and want me with my future and professional goals.

  • I interned with GII during the summer of 2024 while I was pursuing my Master's Degree in International Studies at Texas State University. I decided to apply to work with GII because I believed strongly in your mission and vision, and in the power of inclusivity. During my time with GII, the majority of my work centered around assisting the Phone Project, which helped refugees around Austin gain access to a free phone they could use to communicate with their friends and families back home. As an individual with family members abroad, this project was especially meaningful to me and hit close to home. Receiving messages of thanks from the refugees I assisted for helping them maintain contact with their family members helped me reflect on the importance of interconnectivity. I was glad that although they were new to living in the United States, having a phone to contact their loved ones helped them to maintain a sense of normalcy and bring a piece of home with them here. I am grateful for my time with GII, and if any opportunities to connect or volunteer arise, please do not hesitate to contact me! It would be a pleasure to work with your organization in any capacity.

  • Working with the Global Impact Initiative was an honor and a privilege. During my internship, I worked closely with Anjum and had Zoom meetings with her several times each week. This gave me the opportunity to learn about the daily work of a nonprofit organization and the many responsibilities involved in leading one. Anjum is dynamic, friendly, and very considerate. Every day brought new opportunities to learn, and I gained valuable insights into nonprofit leadership and community service. I truly enjoyed my time with Gii and am grateful for the experience.

  • I cannot thank my mother enough for helping me find the internship opportunity at the Global Impact Initiative. After speaking with Anjum, she told me this would be the perfect internship for me, and she was absolutely right. During my time at Gii, I learned so much from Anjum and the entire team. Everyone was supportive, understanding, and flexible. They understood the challenges students face while balancing studies and other responsibilities. I learned not only how nonprofit organizations operate, but also how to build professional networks, develop partnerships, and make meaningful connections. The refugee bazaars organized by Gii were especially inspiring and showed me the power of community and entrepreneurship. I am grateful for everything I learned during this experience.

  • What stood out most about my internship at Gii is how deliberately the team leveraged my past experience. I was given real ownership over grant research and writing, from funder research to drafting full proposals. My input on strategy and framing was genuinely sought out, not just collected as a formality. I've also seen firsthand how forward-thinking and adaptable the team is, constantly evolving programs to meet the community's changing needs. That combination of innovation and warmth made my experience much more valuable. My every question was met with patience and I always felt like a trusted contributor. Working alongside Anjum Malik has been a particular highlight as she's an absolute force of nature!

Not only have I gained valuable knowledge and skills, but I have been introduced to one of the most supportive and dedicated teams. Gii has built my confidence in communication, research, and grant application writing. They showed me a line of work that is meaningful, impactful, and empowering, even while working remotely. The team at Gii has guided me every step of the way, especially Anjum Malik, whose kindness, dedication, and attentiveness have inspired me in a multitude of ways. To say I am grateful is an understatement!
