ESL for Healthcare

Gii's ESL for Healthcare program equips English language learners with the communication skills and specialized language needed to pursue education and careers in the healthcare sector. Designed by Blair Bourassa, Vice President and Academic Director at the HOFT Institute, the program bridges the gap between general English proficiency and the specific demands of healthcare environments.

The program is tailored for upper-intermediate students ready to advance their language skills with purpose. Through a progressive sequence of instruction, participants develop medical vocabulary, healthcare-specific communication strategies, and the reading and writing foundations needed to communicate accurately, professionally, and ethically in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare settings. The curriculum includes targeted study in medical terminology and field-specific language used throughout the U.S. healthcare system, preparing learners to pursue education, training, and employment opportunities in healthcare-related fields.

Participants gain more than language skills. They build confidence in patient communication, learn the cultural norms of American healthcare workplaces, and develop the foundation needed to succeed in healthcare education and employment pathways. Experienced instructors provide mentorship throughout, and Gii supports graduates in securing meaningful work aligned with their healthcare goals.
