Volunteer Mentor Application
Thank you for your willingness to spend time with a refugee youth. This is such a critical decision-making time in their lives, mentorship can help them make great choices.
Afghan youth are in particular need, given the complexity of our school system, considering that they’re coming from a country with little access to early education, and no meaningful education for girls.
Some of our young clients have finished school, some are on the verge of graduation. They're all here because at the very least, they need a quiet hour with a friend to practice English conversation.
Thanks again for considering our program.
Mentors Are Precious
Your volunteer intake can start now, beginning with the Gii documents for you to complete and upload. They are linked in the list below.
Once the document uploads are complete, the final step is orientation where you’ll meet online with Gii staff and learn about our young clients and how we match you with an Afghan youth.
Training and orientation takes about 2 hours.
I’m Ready!
Volunteer mentors have a duty to report abuse. As part of your training, you must complete a brief mandatory reporter course by TX Department of Family Protective Services (TDFPS). Instructions on how to create your user account and begin the course are provided in the linked sheet, (Item 3) this should take about 45 minutes and counts toward your two hour overall orientation. At completion, you’ll receive a downloadable certificate, please use our form to upload that document.
